What every charge on your GloBird bill means

GloBird bills combine electricity and gas on one invoice, each with a daily supply charge plus usage, and — for solar customers — a set of feed-in credits. Here's what each line means.

Daily Charge (supply charge)
A fixed daily charge for being connected to the network, billed per day in the period regardless of how much energy you use. GloBird lists a separate daily charge for electricity and for gas. UtilityBillReader captures the daily rate and the number of days. Example: 28 days × $1.24300 = $34.80
Peak, off-peak and shoulder usage
GloBird's ZEROHERO plan is a Time-of-Use tariff: electricity is priced differently depending on when you use it — peak (late afternoon to evening), off-peak (midday) and shoulder (the rest). The bill shows each band; UtilityBillReader records your total electricity usage and the tariff name. Example: Total 342.13 kWh on ZEROHERO
Solar / generation feed-in
If you export solar power to the grid, GloBird credits it back across several feed-in bands (for example a higher rate in the 4–9pm window) plus plan-specific credits like the Super Export top-up. These appear as negative amounts that reduce your bill — and can push the electricity total into credit. Example: 430.46 kWh exported, −$34.03 in credits
ZeroHero daily credit
A plan feature unique to GloBird's ZEROHERO offer: a fixed daily credit applied for eligible days in the period. It shows as a negative amount and is part of why a high-solar month can end in credit. Example: 24 days × −$1.00 = −$24.00
Gas usage (MJ)
Gas is metered in cubic metres but billed in megajoules (MJ). GloBird converts your m³ reading to MJ using a heating value and a correction factor printed on the detailed breakdown. Summer and winter usage may be priced on different steps. Example: 1,373.09 MJ × $0.03619 = $49.69
Discounts
GLOSAVE and similar plans apply conditional discounts — pay-on-time, direct debit, and dual-fuel — as a percentage off usage and supply charges. They appear as a single discount line reducing the total. Example: −$3.94 across electricity and gas
GST
Australian bills include GST (10%) in the totals. GloBird shows the GST component of each section and of the bill overall. UtilityBillReader captures the totals as billed. Example: $10.77 GST component
Government bill relief & concessions
Where applied, government electricity bill relief or state concessions appear as credits reducing the amount payable. Eligibility and amounts vary by state and household.
Meter reads & estimates
The detailed breakdown lists each meter's previous and current reads and whether they were actual or estimated. Gas is often estimated between actual reads; UtilityBillReader records the read type so you can tell an estimated bill from an actual one. Example: Gas 7,735 → 7,770 m³ (Estimate)

Frequently asked questions

My GloBird bill has both electricity and gas — can UtilityBillReader handle a combined invoice?

Yes. GloBird bills electricity and gas on a single invoice. UtilityBillReader reads both and splits them into separate rows in your CSV, each with its own usage, unit (kWh or MJ), supply charge, and meter details.

I have solar — does it capture my feed-in and export credits?

UtilityBillReader captures your total solar generation and the net effect of feed-in on your bill, including when credits push the electricity total into the negative. It records the totals as billed; it does not currently split each individual feed-in band into its own column.

Does UtilityBillReader capture how much energy I used?

Yes — your total electricity usage in kWh and total gas usage in MJ for the billing period, plus whether each read was actual or estimated. It reports the period total per meter; it does not currently split electricity into separate peak, off-peak and shoulder figures.

I'm on a Time-of-Use plan like ZEROHERO — does it pick that up?

UtilityBillReader records that your plan is ZEROHERO (or GLOSAVE for gas) and captures your total usage and the daily supply charge. It identifies the tariff; it does not currently break usage into separate peak, off-peak and shoulder figures.

My gas bill is in megajoules but my meter reads in cubic metres — which does it record?

Both are on the bill. UtilityBillReader records the billed gas usage in MJ along with the meter's m³ reads and read dates, so you get the figure used for billing and the underlying reads.

What format do I get back?

Two downloads off the same extraction. A base CSV gives you one row per meter or service with a column for every field — retailer, account, addresses, billing period, usage, cost, and tariff — and opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets, or any accounting tool. An advanced Excel (.xlsx) workbook adds a second sheet of per-line charge detail (TOU bands, solar feed-in lines, electricity vs gas charges) keyed back to the first sheet so you can reconcile or pivot without losing structure.

Can I convert several bills at once?

Yes. Upload multiple bills — a year of statements, or bills across several properties — and get them back in one structured file, one row per meter. This is the common workflow for bookkeepers and property managers reconciling utility costs in bulk.

How accurate is UtilityBillReader?

Every extraction returns a confidence score and flags anything worth a second look, such as a bill covering multiple meters. UtilityBillReader lays each field out next to a clear label so it's quick to check the output against your original bill, and the confidence score tells you where to look first.

Do I need an account, and is UtilityBillReader really free?

You can convert your first 5 pages every day with no account — just upload and download. Paid plans add higher volumes for regular or bulk use, but there's no signup wall to try UtilityBillReader or handle a one-off bill.

Does UtilityBillReader work on my phone?

Yes. UtilityBillReader works in your phone's browser, so you can convert a bill from a photo or PDF without being at a computer.

My GloBird bill runs several pages — will it read the detailed breakdown pages too?

Yes. Multi-page GloBird invoices are handled in a single upload, including the detailed breakdown pages where the per-meter reads and charges are itemised.

What file types can I upload, and is my data secure?

PDF bills, digital or scanned, including multi-page bills in a single upload. Files uploaded without an account are deleted within 24 hours rather than stored indefinitely; account uploads follow your plan's retention window.

Use cases

Bookkeeping & accounting

Pull the total, billing period, and charge breakdown straight into a CSV ready to import into Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks, instead of keying utility expenses by hand.

Tenant rebilling

Property managers splitting a master bill across tenants can extract usage per supply address and produce a clean per-tenant breakdown for cost recovery.

ESG & emissions reporting

Extract actual kWh and MJ as activity data for greenhouse-gas accounting — more accurate than estimating emissions from the dollar amount alone.

Usage analysis

Compare total usage and the cost breakdown across billing periods to see how your energy use and bill change over time.
